Charlotte had an affair with a man who Jacques, her husband, later found out, and he caught the couple red-handed. Jacques killed both his wife and lover. There are some rumors about how he killed them. Some say he took his sword and slashed them to pieces, others say he stabbed them, and others claim he stabbed the huntsman (Pierre de Lavergne) and strangled her wife.

Since the incident, it is believed that Charlotte’s ghost is still in the palace. The current residents, the Duke of Brissac and his family, say that she still roams in the palace.
